Dance First Insight from Lorca Simons & Live Wire!

This week’s Dance First Insight is from Lorca Simons & Live Wire!

“I believe in the power of motion, the wisdom of gravity, the emptiness of true love, the fact that there is no way out but through the body, no way up unless we all go together, no way down unless we follow the beat, no way in unless we embrace the dark.” Gabrielle Roth

Hello Dancers and Shakers,

Lorca here. Hello! I want to share what the 5Rhythms theatre wing, LIVE WIRE has been up to.

Monday Love to your Mindful Mindlessness

“ The empty vessel makes the loudest sound.”

 ~ Plato

When do you get your best ideas? Have you ever paid attention to where or when good ideas appear? Conversely, have you ever noticed how hard it is to come up with a good idea on demand when you’re staring at a blank page?

If only there was some scientific research or a proven methodology to jumpstart your idea-forming process. Wouldn’t it be great if we could turn on inspiration with the flick of a switch?

Good ideas are like the spark that starts a fire. You might have plenty of time, all the resources you need, and the wherewithal to do a project, but without the flash of inspiration that ties it all together you’re going nowhere.

Who have I been, who am I now, how will I re-vision myself?

The closing of the calendar year provides an opportunity to mark the cycle of time, to take stock of where and who we’ve been, and to envision our future. As 2022 comes to a close and 2023 awaits us, we use the Tamalpa Life/Art Process to reflect on who we’ve been this last year, who we are today, and who we want to become. Using the power of drawing, dance, creative writing and community, we explore ourselves through a self-portrait process that can help us mark the passage of time and tend to our growth.

From a physiological perspective the human heart is an organ central to the circulatory system. From an archetypal perspective the human heart is an organ central to our imagination, intellect, and aesthetic sensitivity. The intention for this 4-week series is to explore, express, embody, and bridge into your life, the wisdom of your own heart. Participants will enter the somatic, imaginal, and relational realms of their heart and will learn that there is a connective tissue, a fluid rich membrane, between those realms. At the end of the series participants will gain embodied and creative resources to cultivate a practice of connecting with the heart, speaking from the heart, listening to the heart and, most importantly, trusting the heart’s wisdom in their day-to-day lives and relationships.

Online Series: Arts of Embodiment October~ with Natan Daskal

4 Fridays: October 7, 14, 21, 28 | 10-11:30AM PDT | $70/series

Celebrate the marriage of Embodiment and Creativity so central to Tamalpa and Anna Halprin’s approach. Each class begins with guided explorations of the body — deepening into sensation, awareness, movement, and presence — then moving into creative expression through dance, drawing, and creative writing. Through the arts we forge meaning between our creativity and our bodily experience, exploring themes such as breath, gravity, and space – physically, metaphorically, and artistically.
