Monday Love to your Embodied Learning

“ Learning never exhausts the mind.”

 ~ Leonardo da Vinci

How do you learn things nowadays? What kind of learner are you? Do you find that learning new skills, talents, or techniques keeps you help your mind body and soul more limber?

Everyone has a preferred way of garnering knowledge. But knowledge isn’t the only kind of thing there is to learn. Learning a new skill can require you to improve your manual dexterity, for instance.

Learning to dance introduces your body to a world of new moves. Anything athletic is an entire symphony of motion.

Dance First Member Spotlight on Ya’Acov Darling Khan and Phoenix Rising!

This week’s Dance First Member Insight is from Ya’Acov Darling Khan and Phoenix Rising!

Is There Really Someone to Blame?

Movement Medicine Co-Founder and Contemporary Shaman Ya’Acov Darling Khan talks about the human addiction to blame and the choice to stand up, grow up and play our role in the dance of life……….

It’s a good thing that we’re evolving in our understanding of the effects of trauma. It’s clear that when we’ve been hurt, we humans are magnificently creative in the ways we adapt to manage that hurt. And just like when we physically hurt ourselves, the body responds to protect that hurt; the same is true in the psyche. Muscles go into spasms, and so do we...

Monday Love to your Happy Habits

“ A habit cannot be tossed out the window; it must be coaxed down the stairs a step at a time.”

 ~ Mark Twain

Are you a creature of habit? How much of your life is routine? How often is it spontaneous?

One way to look at life is through the lens of interconnecting cycles. There are a lot of things you do every day in the same way, and then there are cycles that recur on a monthly or annual or even longer interval.

Often times you may not even realize that something is a habit or a routine until there is some sort of an interrupt. But what are routines good for anyway?

Well, first of all they save you from decision fatigue. Too many choices can be overwhelming, have you ever shopped for a balsamic vinegar at a well-stocked market?

In this series, we focus on a new area of the body each week. For each body part, we study anatomy and body mechanics, we explore its movement somatically, and we allow its wisdom to express through drawing, creative writing, and dance. By exploring our anatomy experientially and artistically, we connect more deeply with our bodies, creativity, and lived experience.

Monday Love to your Nurturing Nature

“ Nature never deceives us; it is we who deceive ourselves.”

 ~  Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Who are your “inter-dimensional allies”? Do you connect to nature? Or does the natural world connect with you?

Even folks who live in the most sterile of high-rises have some tenuous connection to nature. Just as some Walden-esque back-to-the-landers can’t avoid seeing the occasional airplane or electric line.

Every cell of what we are, and every bit and byte of the technological world we’ve built around us all springs from nature in one way or another.

Monday Love to your Social Surroundings

“ The only normal people are the ones you don’t know very well.”

 ~ Alfred Adler

What are you next to in life? Beyond the people who live next-door, who are your neighbors ideologically, culturally, or socially? Have you ever considered that to which you are adjacent?

They say if you want to know who a person is, take a look at the five or six people they spend the most time with and you’ll find an average.

Dance First Member Insight from Brooke Johnston & Conscious Dancer!

This week’s Dance First Member Insight is from Brooke Johnston & Conscious Dance!

Hey everyone!

My name is Brooke, and I’m Mark’s writer/editor! I help out behind the scenes with some of the Monday Love particulars, including this section right here. If you’ve been reading Monday Love for a minute, you might have noticed that we highlight a new member every week. I wanted to take this opportunity to give you guys a bit of an insight into what it is we do and break down the process!

Essentially, I work with the members of the Conscious Dancer community to showcase their ideas, talents, and moments of inspiration. Our spotlights tend to focus on an idea or theme – moving through change, finding inspiration in dark places, and hope for the future have been some of our more recent ones. Spotlight writers are also encouraged to come up with their own themes, too, so that everyone is writing about something that resonates with them.

(Interested in booking a spotlight? Send me an email – brooke@vandykediting.com!)

Monday Love to your Year Ahead

“ Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”

 ~  Søren Kierkegaard

Out with the old, in with the new, amirite?

A lot of folks might be looking back on ’21 like it wasn’t the greatest year or something, but really, if you consider the ‘might haves’, we actually did pretty darned good, considering the hand we were dealt.

Just under a year ago to the day we almost lost our democracy, but for the valiant efforts of some brave and vastly-outnumbered police. A couple weeks later we celebrated the seating of a true statesman and the first female vice-president who is a person-of-color to boot.
